Managing and Promoting Coventry's City Centre ~ CCTV
Close Circuit Television Surveillance Systems Operated and Maintained By
CV One Ltd.
The Home Office states CCTV surveillance is particularly
valuable when used as part of a wider crime reduction strategy, thus
strengthening partnership with the local police.
Pictures from the cameras are continuously monitored at the
communications centre. The police are informed of suspicious incidents
as they happen and can be directed to the exact location by CCTV
operators.
We have installed CCTV systems in Coventry city centre, car parks and
subways to help prevent crime and for public reassurance.
All the systems are used in accordance with a strict code of practice which
is designed to protect the publics interests and ensure the information
collected is managed in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Types of offences that can lead to arrests include:
Shoplifting
Pick-pocketing
Drugs offences
Assault
Car crimes
Public order offences
Aside from the disadvantage of not attending school, youngsters can
also get into serious trouble if they hang around unsupervised on the
streets.
CVone make good use of the CCTV cameras installed in the town centres to
spot truants and then send education officers and police officers to
apprehend them and return them to school. Stopping truants from missing
out on vital education is a major part of the CVone's work.
CCTV cameras are also being used to catch domestic and trade litterers in the act - and those who refuse to pay their fines will end up in court.
This code was developed in 1987 and amended in 2006. It has been agreed by
the police and other interested bodies.
It aims to ensure that any systems are solely used to provide you with a
